When young Indy disappears in the magic box, he would pass
directly through the floor, to underneath the train. Yet when
we see him through the rear of the train, he is clearly running
onto the track from the side.

While in the catacombs, burning pieces of Indiana's torch
fall into the "petroleum," but it doesn't ignite until someone
throws in a match.

As the fire breaks out, Indy gives Elsa the torch, but in
the next scene it is gone. You can also see stuntmen instead
the actors.

After swimming under petrol in the catacombs, Jones surfaces
completely dry, except his wet hair, which makes wet spots
on his clothes.

After the Joneses escape the Austrian castle by motorcycle,
they stop at a crossroads. Here, the signpost reads "Venedig"
in the first shot of the sign and then the English version,
"Venice" in the subsequent close-up shot.

Indy's face is almost black from dirt and grime in the scene
where the tank's gun is grinding dirt onto him from the wall,
yet after he climbs up from the side of the cliff to join
the others his face is hardly dirty at all.

The turret of the tank is (not) attached to the rest of the

For a split second, when the villain jumps from the dock
to Indy and Elsa's boat, it's clear he slid off the other
side into the water.

Indy kicks the periscope on the tank, spinning it a half
turn anti-clockwise, and yet when seen from inside the tank,
it makes a quarter turn in the clockwise direction.

When Indy realizes the X on the floor and runs up the stairs
the book shelves and the books behind him on the second floor
are obviously fake.

Factual errors

Indy and Elsa dive under the burning petroleum. If it was
really petroleum, it would have burned their eyes and possibly
blinded them. Even if it was only a top layer, they would
have passed through it.
Scene: The Catacombs
|
|
|
In Venice as Indy's boat is being dragged into the big ship's
screw the wooden hull breaks away - revealing that there is
no motor in it, in fact there is nothing, it's just empty!
When Indy and Elsa are coming to the end of the boat scene,
one of the boats hits the propellers of the big ship and is
"chewed up" to about mid-boat, in the next scene
the hatch is not broken and miraculously back in place.

Indy and Henry are at the Nazi book burning, but the Nazi
book burning happened in 1933, and Last Crusade is set in
1938.

Hitler signs his name with the wrong hand when he autographs
the diary, spells his own name incorrectly, and creates a
signature unlike other examples that have survived.

In the airport lounge, two people are reading German newspapers
dated 1918, twenty years before the film is set.

Blasting holes through the rudder of a small plane will not
disable it, especially when Jones Sr.'s body was enough to
cause wind drag. Although level turning would be impossible,
the plane could still maneuver with the wing ailerons, which
are more critical to level flight if ever damaged.

The name Jehovah was indeed spelled with an "I" in classical
Latin, but this is because there was no "J" in the language
then; "I" served both purposes. The grail temple was built
in the Crusader era, after the forms "I" and "J" had become
separate -- which is why there are both "I" and "J" tiles.
At this time "J" was the only correct first letter of Jehovah.

Set in 1938, the Joneses cross the Atlantic by airliner,
even though this service did not start until 1939.

When Indy wants to get Elsa, a rifle is thrown across the
room breaking a lamp and an ashtray. The glass ashtray is
a standard item manufactured exclusively by an LA glass company
and was not made until the late 50's-early 60's.

In 1939, the truck that Marcus is kidnapped in displays the
German Afrika Korps emblem, not introduced until 1940.

Indy & his father get on a German airship in 1938, yet there
were no commercial airship flights after the Hindenburg disaster
of 1937.

Plot Holes
|
|
|
|
When Indiana steps on the "J" instead of the "I" and falls
through, he hangs on by the surrounding tiles (which are also
wrong letters). Although they would break under the weight
of his step, he manages to pull himself up by them.

Indy's mail contains a letter with a plastic window. Glassine
or celluloid windows were common, even then.
Scene: Henry's house

It is claimed that the "X" on the library floor disappears
after it is discovered, but this is merely an illusion caused
by the reflective qualities of the floor material. This is
supported by the fact that the "X" was only discovered when
viewed from a high vantage point.
Scene: The Library

Could a bird actually stop the propeller of a plane when
Indy's father scares the birds into the path of the German
plane? At least one viewer says yes, it could; at the very
least, it could stop the engine if it gets in the air intake.

The butler in the castle says "...and if you are a Scottish
lord, then I am Mickey Mouse," but his mouth movements indicate
something completely different than the words "Mickey Mouse."

Errors in geography

|
|
|
The initial scenes of the movie are shot in Arches National
Park (which is, as is stated, in Utah), and the troop dismounts
at Double Arch. Indy takes the Cross of Coronado from a cave
near that arch. However, there is no train line for miles
in any direction.
