Concealed in the deepest jungles of Adventureland explorers
have uncovered the remains of a decaying structure. This old
temple was once a grand monument, but the passage of time
has caused its once sculpted features to become weathered
and aged.
The god which once was woreshipped here still casts his shadow
- the archeologists camp lies deserted in the jungle and the
screams of the brave adventurers who enter the temple following
Indiana Jones show other guests the way...
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril - Backwards is a high-speed
roller coaster with sudden turns and drops including a looping
which guests experience, and this makes it unique, backwards.
Through the queuing area guests wander around the pathways
surrounding the temple. Here they can explore the camp in
which the archaeologist who have been studying the temple
are living. Amongst the equipment and tents several recently
discovered artefacts lay on tables awaiting inspection.
As guests draw nearer to the temple itself they can see the
scaffolding which has been erected around the structure to
aid the inspection of its walls. Weaving through the scaffolding,
mine cars run to carry discoveries (and explorers) around
the site.
Guests board one of these mine cars for a whirlwind spin
around the ruins of the mysterious temple. Each car holds
12 intrepid guests who begin by climbing backwards to the
highest point of the tracks where they are offered a view
of the whole of the park and onward towards the resort area
and hotels. The pace then speeds up taking them around hair
pin turns and drops surrounding the temple, before the climax
of the attraction a complete 360 degree gravity defying loop
followed by a high speed return to the loading point.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril opened during 1993
in response to the overwhelming popularity of Disney coasters
(Big Thunder Mountain was only one in the park on opening
day).
During winter 1999 through to March 2000 the ride underwent
some major changes which included a capacity increase by 50%
for each train and the addition of an extra train. But most
significant of all the changes is the reversal of the ride
cars which now run the entire ride backwards. The result is
an altogether, new ride experience. One that is really unique
for Disney, as Indiana Jones is the only backwards running
roller coasters in all Disney Themeparks.
Especially at night, Indiana Jones offers you a great view
and very atmospheric view over the park.
The effects and especially the looping are most intensive
and thrilling if you sit in the last rows in the train, meaning
those seats that have an unblocked view of the track the train
just past along.
